No Indian casualties in Kuwait fire, confirms MEA

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday evening confirmed that no Indian casualties were reported in the fire which took place in a villa in Farwaniya, Kuwait.

It was earlier reported that ten Asian workers were killed and 12 others injured in the fire at an old building used to house expat labourers in Kuwait.

MEA official spokesperson Vikas Swarup said in a statement that he has spoken to Indian embassy in Kuwait.

"As per their information, the incident happened at 0800 hrs today in a villa in Farwaniya, Kuwait, where 10 people died of suffocation due to fire. It is further informed that those who died are Pakistani nationals. There is no report of any Indian casualty," he said.

 

Kuwait's Health Ministry, quoted by state news agency KUNA, said all the victims were Indians or Pakistanis.
