Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor said he has no "personal bitterness" with former Mizoram Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan, amid reports of Rajasekharan contesting Lok Sabha polls against the Congress leader in his constituency.

Speaking to ANI, Tharoor said, "I am not seeing this as a fight against an individual; rather, (it is a fight) against the party. As far as Mr Rajasekharan is concerned, he has been kind enough to come to my son's wedding reception. [There is] no personal bitterness [between us]."

Earlier in the day, Rajasekharan resigned from his post, with reports stating that he was set to contest against Tharoor, who is a sitting MP in Lok Sabha from Thiruvananthapuram since 2009.

Rajasekharan, the former chief of BJP in Kerala, was appointed Governor of Mizoram by President Kovind in May last year following the replacement of incumbent Lt. Gen Nirbhay Sharma.

Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi will discharge the additional duties of the Governor of Mizoram until Rajasekharan's replacement is appointed.
