Delhi Police Commissioner B.S Bassi on Tuesday said that the Congress protest march against the Land Acquisition bill has not been prohibited, adding that only demonstrations have been prohibited.
"There have been no prohibition orders on any peaceful march. We only prohibit demonstrations; if someone is conducting a peaceful march, we don't have any problem with that," said Bassi.
Earlier in the day, reports stated that the Congress had been denied permission to carry out its protest march.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has set up barricades and water cannons at Vijay Chowk to prevent the protestors from reaching the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
The Congress is protesting against the NDA Government's Land Acquisition Ordinance, planning to march from the Parliament to the Rashtrapati Bhawan under the leadership of its president Sonia Gandhi and former prime minister Manmohan Singh.
Along with the Congress, leaders of the Janata Dal (United), Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, CPI (M), DMK, INLD as well as other parties are also expected to participate in the protest.
