North Korea has arrested a citizen of the United States over suspicion of spying and stealing state secrets.
According to The Guardian, the man, identified as Kim Dong Chul, was being held by the North Korean government in the capital Pyongyang.
Kim has reportedly lived in China for mnay years and in Virginia as well.
Kim said that he had traveled extensively in recent years between China and North Korea and had made some trips to South Korea as well.
However, a State Department official refused to confirm the story, saying that it could complicate their efforts in securing their freedom.
The official spoke on grounds of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.
