One of the three United States citizens Jeffrey Fowle who was detained over charges of 'anti-state' crimes in North Korea has been released, said U.S. officials.
According to the BBC, U.S. state department spokeswoman Marie Harf said that Fowle was on his way home on Tuesday after negotiations.
She said that the U.S. was trying to secure the release of the remaining two citizens Mathew Miller and Kennet Bae.
The U.S. accused North Korea of using American detainees as pawns in a diplomatic game.
In April, Fowle was reported to have left a Bible in the toilet in one of North Korea's restaurants in port city of Chingjin.
In North Korea, missionary activity is a crime. However, Fowle's family dismissed such allegations that he was on a mission for church.
