North Korea has sentenced a man from the United States to six years of hard labour for 'hostile acts', say reports.
The North Korean authorities have not specified the charges against him but claimed that he had demanded asylum after tearing off his visa.
The North Korean man identified as Mathew Miller was accused of indulgence in a diplomatic game by the United States. The U.S. blames North Korea for using Miller and two other detained Americans as pawns.
Miller had arrived North Korea as a tourist and was later arrested in the month of April, reported the BBC.
Miller admitted that he had a 'wild ambition' to spend time in a North Korean jail to study the country's human rights situation, said prosecutors during the trial.
The White House said that the release of Miller and two other Americans detained in North Korea was a top priority.
