North Korea has just finished building a swanky international airport, which features a jewellery shop, pharmacy and a chocolate fountain.

Photos posted by the country's state media showed leader Kim Jong-un touring the newly built facility with his wife and a group of around a dozen people, reported the Los Angeles Times.

Kim lauded the 'soldier-builders' who worked on the facility, the construction of which he said was a long-cherished wish of his father, the late leader Kim Jong Il.

Photos showed that the airport had at least 12 check-in counters along with an immigration desk featuring modern, automated, glass entry gates. It also featured a clothing shop, a gift shop, a duty-free zone and numerous restaurants.

It's unclear if the authorities received international funds for building the two-story terminal, or how much it cost.

The facility will be thrown open to public on July 1.
