Northeast artisans display their creativity at 30th Suranjkund Mela

New Delhi, Feb. 4 (ANI): The Surajkund Crafts Mela is one of the most famous fairs, organized by Haryana Tourism Department to promote handicrafts items when crafts lovers from all over the country make their way to Surajkund on the outskirts of New Delhi for the international crafts mela.

The annual 15-day-long crafts fair showcases the finest handlooms, handicrafts, authentic fragrances and flavors of rich cuisines every year.

It is held in the picturesque Surajkund Tourist complex near Delhi and it invites artists and craftspersons from across the country and SAARC member countries.

Many talented crafts persons were spotted from the northeastern region of the country at the fair.

Veiuhili, a young entrepreneur from Nagaland, showcased decorative items in the ongoing Mela and she is happy with the opportunity.

"Every year this mela is very good. So I tried hard to participate and fortunately I got a chance to put up my stall. So, I'm very thankful to them. My products are all handmade. I'm planning to bring more products. It's all handmade and we used to sell it outside. We call it dry flower," said Veiuhili.

Many customers also visited the Manipur stall to buy pottery, plastic baskets and other products.

"The product is very good. It's very neat and smooth. It's all handmade products and the quality is also very good. In Manipur stall, basket is very famous so, I bought 3 baskets. I will give it to my friend as a gift and I really like it," said Isha, a customer.

The fair provides new business opportunities to crafts persons and helps them improve their economic status.

Craftsmen and artisans from the northeast who participated in the fair have earned appreciation from visitors for their skills and creations.

Rupsing Rohang, an entrepreneur from Assam, who displayed a range of cane and bamboo products at his stall, was overjoyed with a good response.

"All the products are handmade and we export it. We come every year at Surajkund Mela. Many customers buy our products because they know that the products quality is very good. Every year, we participate in this mela. We are doing a good business," said Rupsing Rohang, Exhibitor from Assam.

"I come every year here to see this Surajkund Mela. It is very good as we get to see so many products and different items. They are from Assam. They told me that these products are handmade and it is very good to see their creativity," said another customer, Mohit Rahul

The artisans and crafts persons from the Northeast have been exhibiting their products in fairs across the country. And everywhere, they have got a tremendous response from the buyers.
