People in Guwahati had a great time listening to various bands and singers on the occasion of World Music Day recently.

Swagmoni Mahanta and Rosy Brahma from Assam, Lau Majaw from Shillong, Somersoult from Meghalaya and Abiogenesis from Nagaland, enthralled the audiences with their performances.

The artists played different genres of music at the event held under the aegis of Aucto Production Group.

Rana Kalita, another organiser, said: "We organized this event to bring all the musicians together at one platform because we never get this kind of chance to play our own music. So, this is the only platform where all the musicians can play whatever they like or any kinds of music genre."

One of the highlights of the event was the performance by Somersoult, a band from Meghalaya.

The band performed both western and Khasi songs. They entertained the crowd by playing a traditional Khasi string instrument called "Do-Tara". They also experimented with a bamboo basket and broom as percussion instruments.

Their music is dedicated to bringing peace and tranquility in the region.

Pinsuk, a singer with Somersoult, said: "Through music, we can promote peace in our land and it can bring us love, respect with one another and our culture. There are many talented musicians, especially among women. But, we really don't have many places where we can perform, especially here."

"But now, that is changing. So, on this World Music Day, I would like to take that opportunity to celebrate," Pinsuk added.

Meanwhile, music lovers from Nagaland also celebrated the occasion.

Bands like Purple Fusion, UDX, Incipit, Alo Wanth, Clueless Attention, Blue Print and Tsatila Anar enthralled the audience in Dimapur with their brand of music.

Alo Wanth, a particpant, said: "This is the first time that all the musicians have come together for a cause. It's a great platform for the musicians to showcase their talent and I believe that they have a bright future."

Music is an integral part of the lives of people of the Northeast. And, events like these provide them an opportunity to come together and celebrate.
