Mines and Steel Minister Narendra Singh Tomar was the chief guest at the event.

Special guests were children and staff from Mr. Kailash Satyarthi's organization "Bachpan Bachao Andolan" and many of his supporters from civil society.

A video of Bachpan Bachao Andolan's Anthem, written by Mr. Satyarthi and sung by famous singer Jasbir Jassi, was also played.

Norway's Ambassador to India, Eivind S. Homme said "We are celebrating the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to a proud son of India, a wonderful representative of the vibrant civil society in this country, a great champion for children rights, all over the world. We are celebrating the Satyarthi team, the organization Bachpan Bachao Andolan, their Indian and international partners and supporters, and who Mr. Satyarthi says are the real winners of the Prize, the children".

Tomar, while applauding both recipients, noted that "to see the efforts of an Indian citizen being recognized on a prestigious global platform is a proud moment. But this also throws a deeper light on issues of child rights globally and the need to ensure that children around the world are protected and nurtured well. We support the cause of child rights and the work being done by organizations like Bachpan Bachao Aandolan".

The Norwegian Nobel Committee, in its announcement of the award said, "Showing great personal courage, Kailash Satyarthi, maintaining Gandhi's tradition, has headed various forms of protests and demonstrations, all peaceful, focusing on the grave exploitation of children for financial gain. He has also contributed to the development of important international conventions on children's rights."

In her congratulations to the two Nobel Peace Prize laureates, Norway's Prime Minister, Ms. Erna Solberg, said that; "Safeguarding children's rights is one of the greatest challenges of our time and one of the Norwegian Government's top priorities. Education helps to lift children out of poverty and ensures their rights. Education is essential for peace and sustainable development.
