Tech giant Apple is speculated to launch a trade-in programme along with the latest version of its iPhone model in the next month, allowing users to walk in the Apple Stores and exchange their old iPhones for the newer version.

It is speculated that the models considered eligible for the exchange scheme include the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S but the 3 and 3G versions aren't eligible due to their low resale value.

According to News.com.au, Apple store staff is currently being trained on the new trade-in programme while some sources claim that some stores in the US are already running a limited pilot programme.

A tech blog reported that Apple was working with recycling company Brightstar and that trade-ins could be refurbished by Apple and resold in emerging markets throughout the world.

Meanwhile, Apple CEO Tim Cook didn't dispel the rumours and said that he was not opposed to the in-store trade-ins idea.

Cook said that he has seen third party vendors of Apple products doing it and he likes the environmental aspect of it and he finds it encouraging, the report added.
