The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has allowed men to tie a second knot without seeking permission from his existing wife.

CII has termed the clause "un-Islamic" that mention seeking prior permission from the first wife for second marriage is imperative, the Nation reported.

A CII meeting was recently held under the chair of Moulana Mohammad Khan Sheerani that reviewed Muslim Family Laws Ordinance 1961 and ruled the new order.

Maulana Sheerani said that under Shariah, a man is not bound to seek approval for second marriage from the first wife. However, a man is bound to treat all his spouses with justice and equity.
