London has converted many of its red phones booths into green solar-powered phone charging stations.
The solarboxes are fitted with a roof-mounted solar panel and inside there is a variety of phone charging ports for a range of smartphone models, as well as a screen that displays ads, the Independent reported.
Harold Craston, who came up with this idea with Kirsty Kenny, said that he thought that there are 8,000 of the phone booth lying unused in London and they must be able to find a use for them.
Five more solarboxes, which can charge up to 100 phones a day, offering a 20 per cent battery boost in 10 minutes, will be rolled out by April 2015.
