A scuffle broke out between workers of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) and police in Jaipur as they protested against Union Minister Nihal Chand and demanded his resignation over his role in a rape-related incident.
The minister has been charged for raping a 20-year-old married woman who filed a complaint, accusing her husband and his friends, including the union minister, of sexual assault.
Meanwhile, Indian National Congress (INC) leader Archana Sharma accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of having double standards and appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take some action.
"BJP has double standards pertaining to morality, if they are convicted by the court or some allegations have been put against them, then they are free to move around freely and not resign. But, if any other party leader is involved in any such case, then they build pressure on them to resign," said Sharma.
"If the Prime Minister says in Parliament that he has zero tolerance where the safety and security of women is compromised, then he should walk the talk at this moment. This is the biggest issue for the BJP," she added.
