New South Wales coach Trevor Bayliss has backed India ODI tour-dropped David Warner and Steve Smith, both of who play in NSW, to rediscover their best form in the state ranks and prepare for a return to Australia's one-day side.

Warner has been battling poor form and was dumped from the Australian limited-overs squad following the Test series against England and the upcoming one-day series against India, while Smith has not played one-day cricket for Australia since January.

However, the Sydney Morning Herald reports that Bayliss said that if his protegees can boost their performances in the Sheffield Shield, then they may even earn a call-up for the Ashes, adding that he is confident that both of them can deliver for NSW this season.

Bayliss further praised Warner, saying that he is an asset to NSW as he is always out to prove a point, although he added that by building up Warner's confidence, he can make the player win games for NSW and thus make his place back in the selectors' minds.
