64-year-old endurance swimmer Diana Nyad has begun her two-day swim fest in New York City to raise money for Superstorm Sandy victims.
According to the New York Daily News, Nyad had plenty of company on the first day of her 48-hour midtown Manhattan marathon.
The 64-year-old churned tirelessly up and down a 40-yard pool set up outside of Macy's on Tuesday as music blared around her, the report said.
Nyad, her head bobbing in a pink swim cap, only stopped for brief moments to greet new volunteers who wanted a chance to swim alongside her for a few laps, the report added.
She said before the swim that it was going to be magical to be out there and a spectacle right in the middle of New York City.
Last month, Nyad became the first person to swim non-stop from Havana to Key West without a shark cage, and plenty of people showed up at the bright blue pool outside of Macy's just to get a look at her in action, the report further said.
