A New York City chef has created a record-breaking gingerbread village using 861kg of icing sugar, 181kg of lollies and over 200kg of gingerbread dough.

Executive sous chef at the New York Marriott Jon Lovich's sugary display consists of 152 gingerbread houses, 65 trees, 4 gingerbread cable cars, 5 gingerbread train cars, an underground lolly subway station, lolly trees and sugar signage.

Lovich's 20th display at the New York Hall of Science also features five 60cm nutcrackers made of royal icing, News.com.au reported.

The huge sugary display, which weighs more than 1 tonne, is competing to enter in the Guinness World Record as the largest gingerbread exhibit.
