The United States House of Representatives has approved President Barack Obama's plan to train and equip Syrian rebels to fight Islamic State militants in the country amid confusion about the strategy's success.
Obama received the much need political support from the House as he also seeks to build a global coalition to fight IS militants in the Middle East.
Obama's proposal was, however, opposed by more than 40 percent of Democrats who were skeptical about the success of the strategy and said that the U.S. operations could aggravate for years.
Many representatives were worried that the President's plans were too limited, reported the Washington Post.
Representative Steve Israel (N.Y.), chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and a close ally of Obama also expressed skepticism regarding the Syrian proposal.
