Remembering the victims on the anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy that shook the entire world and not just the United States, President Barack Obama lauded the courage of American people while asserting that terrorist organisations like Al Qaeda and ISIS know that they will never be able to defeat America.

The remembrance service held six moments of silence, in which the first one was observed at 8:46 am (1246 GMT), commemorating the when the first hijacked passenger jet hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

"We renew the love and faith that binds us together as one American family. The most enduring memorial to those we lost is ensuring the America we continue to be. Groups like al Qaeda & ISIL know that they will never be able to defeat a nation as great & strong as America," the President said.

Further stating that Al-Qaeda and ISIS know that they will never be able to defeat a nation as great and strong as America, he added that justice was delivered to Osama bin Laden, who was neutralised by American security forces.

"We've dealt devastating blows to al Qaeda. We delivered justice to Osama bin Laden. We resolve to continue doing everything in our power to protect this country that we love," he said.

Speaking to the survivors and families of the 9/11, the President said that their steadfast love and faithfulness has been an inspiration to me and for our entire country, adding that America will never forget the lives of 3,000 people that were snatched so cruelly.

More than 2,750 people were killed when two passenger jets destroyed the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001.

While another jet slammed into the Pentagon, a fourth jet crashed in a field in Pennsylvania after those on board tried to overpower the hijackers.
