President Barack Obama has said the core of al-Qaeda is nearly defeated, but insisted that the hard fight against the militant group remains.
While speaking to marines, who have borne the brunt of combat in Afghanistan, Obama said that it is still a hard fight.
Speaking at Camp Pendleton in California, he said that U.S. troops have nearly finished the job in Afghanistan.
According to the Washington Times, Obama said that it was because of the marines and commandos that the US is accomplishing what the nation set out to do.
He said that the core of al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan is on the way to defeat, adding that they are going to make sure that Afghanistan is never again a source of attacks against the US.
