US President Barack Obama has said that Cuba will gradually witness a change in the wake of his decision to normalize diplomatic ties with the Cuban government.

According to the Washington Times, speaking at a press conference in the White House, Obama said that isolation of Cuba - American policy for more than five decades - had failed, and he is firmly convinced it was time to forge a new path.

Obama said that he knew deep in his bones that if doing the same thing for 50 years did not bring a change, then something different had to be tried to achieve a different outcome.

He said that change was going to come to Cuba, adding that it was likely to be slower but it was going to happen anyway.

He further added that while he hoped to visit Cuba someday, it was not in the cards for now.
