American singer Barbra Streisand and director Steven Spielberg will soon be the privileged ones as they will be awarded with the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Barack Obama during a ceremony at the White House on November 24.
However, the two are being highly criticised by many people on the social media for being honoured with the highest civilian honour in the United States.
The first African-American President of the US defended the stars, stating that the 'Jurassic Park' director and the 73-year-old singer are the ones, who expanded everyone's imaginations and have contributed a lot in their particular field, the Daily Express reported.
Barbra, who was the first woman to win a Golden Globe for Best Director for 'Yentl', is also one of the few performers to receive an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.
Among the others honoured are singer Gloria Estefan, music producer Emilio Estefan and songwriter Stephen Sondheim, as well as a list of activists, sportsmen, academics and civil servants.
