The United States air strikes to support Iraqi Kurdish forces to recapture the country's largest dam were aimed at safeguarding American interests there, claimed President Barack Obama.
The BBC quoted President Obama, as saying in a letter to the U.S.Congress that the failure to recapture the Mosul Dam might put the U.S. staff and the U.S. embassy in Baghdad at risk.
Kurdish forces said they have almost recaptured the dam, and if they do, it would be one of the biggest reversals for the rebels in the ongoing crisis in Iraq.
