One boy was killed and several others feared trapped after a three-storey building collapsed in Thane early on Friday morning.
According to locals, the incident took place at around 2:30 a.m. when the Shakuntala building, located in Mumbra locality of Thane collapsed.
Soon six fire trucks and officials of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rushed to the spot and began rescue operations.
Locals suspect that eight people are still trapped under the rubble of cement and steel.
"Our rescue efforts are going on since 4:30 in the morning. Till now, the body of one boy, aged between 10 and 12, has been recovered. Local residents claim that eight people are still trapped inside," said NDRF Deputy Commandant Sachadanand Dawde.
" We have been conducting search operations to find these eight people but we found no one. We are carrying on with the operation," he added.
This recent incident comes two months after another building in the locality collapsed in April, killing over 70 persons.
