'My son sacrificed his life for the country with Vande Matram as his last words' said Vamanrao Gawai, father of Sepoy Sumedh Waman who joined the Army in 2011.
The sobbing father further added "My younger son is in the army too, If one has fallen down, my another is still standing, who will make two fall and will make the enemy pay back for his brother's death."
Sep. Sumedh Waman hailed from Lonagra village in Akola, Maharashtra and was among the two Army soldiers killed in a fierce gunfight with the militants in Shopian encounter in Jammu and Kashmir.
The mortal remains of the martyr were flown for last rites to his native place, Akola in Maharashtra, where he was laid to rest with full military honours.
Chinar Corps Commander Lt. Gen. J.S. Sandhu, along with officials from all ranks, paid rich tributes to Sepoy.
