A U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agent has been killed and several other people wounded in a shooting at Los Angeles International Airport.

A 23-year-old LA resident, Paul Anthony Ciancia, has been detained by the FBI as a suspect in the shooting, the BBC reports.

The TSA officials confirmed that the officer killed in the rampage was Gerardo Hernandez and said three other officers had been injured in the incident.

FBI found a note with the suspect Ciancia expressing anti-government views, the report added.

LA Airport police chief Patrick Gannon said the suspect came into Terminal 3, pulled out an assault rifle from a bag, and opened fire.

He further added that the alleged gunman then went to a security screening area and continued shooting, but he spared those who denied being TSA officials.

According to the report, hundreds of flights nationwide have been affected by the incident.

A law enforcement official later said that Ciancia was wounded in police firing, adding that he was shot in the mouth and one leg.
