The first edition of the three-day ONGC Para Games, an initiative for the differently abled employees evoked huge enthusiasm among the 120 participants, out of which 20 were lady sports enthusiasts.
"The philosophy behind conducting the ONGC Para Games is to provide similar sporting avenues to differently abled employees that the regular employees enjoy," said D.D. Misra, Director-HR, ONGC.
ONGC Para Games, which kick-started on December 19, will be a regular annual feature. The company aims to support similar initiatives that seek to eliminate disparities of all forms against the physically challenged by not only creating opportunities for livelihood but also instilling confidence for growth at par with everyone in the society.
A total of 46 events were organised over three days, which comprised of five categories in badminton, three categories in table tennis, four categories in wheel chair and 34 in athletics including 100 meter, 200 meter, 400 meter, 2 km walk, long jump and discus throw.
Apart from this, ONGC also set up Integrated Muscular Dystrophy Rehabilitation Center at Solan, Himachal Pradesh, supported ALEMCO for distributing aids and appliances to differently abled people, provided financial support for education and training of 40 intellectually disabled girls attending Rapheal Special School at Dehradun.
