International chemical weapons watchdog has confirmed that Syria has handed over a detail of its chemical weapons stockpile and also a plan to destroy all its facilities linked to the deadly poison gas and nerve agent programme.
The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) announced on Sunday that Syria completed its arsenal declaration on Thursday, meeting the strict timeline of destroying the stockpile by mid-2014, CBS News reports.
The Hague-based group said that such declarations by member states provided the basis for plans for a systematic, complete and verified destruction of declared chemical weapons and production facilities.
Syria had earlier given the preliminary details on its stockpiles to the OPCW, after the UN inspectors visited almost 23 declared locations in Damascus.
