The market indices on Tuesday reflected positive start owing to strong global cues.
The BSE's Sensex traded 116.88-points higher at 33,183.29, while Nifty traded at 10,174.60, thus inching closer to the 10,200 mark.
All sectoral indices traded in green, with the Nifty Metal and PSU Bank rising by 1.5 percent.
Among top gainers were Fortis Healthcare, Canara Bank, Corporation Bank, and Jet Airways, who gained up to eight percent. On the contrary, Bharti Airtel and Hero Motocorp traded under pressure.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 669.4 points to 24,202.6, S&P 500 gained 70.29 points to 2,658.55 and the Nasdaq Composite surged 227.88 points to 7,220.54.
Meanwhile, the Indian rupee traded at Rs.64.77 per US dollar.
