Opposition parties called for a state wide bandh in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday demanding special status for the state.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Police detained a number of protesters in Vishakhapatnam.

The bandh, which had been called by the Communist Party of India (CPI), is being supported by the Congress which has called upon people to fight for the right of the state to have special status without resorting to self-immolation.
