Oprah Winfrey has revealed that she was a victim of racism during a shopping trip in Switzerland.

The US talk show host, who is one of the world's richest women, said that an assistant refused to attend her in an upmarket handbag shop in Zurich, and she was told that the bags on display were "too expensive" for her, the BBC reported.

In an interview with a US television, Winfrey said that though she left the shop calmly after the incident, the experience was proof that racism is still an issue.

The claims have come amid a political row over plans by some Swiss towns to ban asylum-seekers from some public places, the report said.
