Five people have been killed in a shooting incident that took place at a business headquarters in Orlando, Florida on Monday.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office confirmed the death of five people in the incident, saying that four people were dead at the scene and another victim died at the hospital.

Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said that the gunman was a former disgruntled employee who was fired from the office in April.

He added that the shooter had shot him dead.

"We are all on heightened alert from the tragic incidents across the globe. We cannot connect this incident to any global terrorism," Demings said.

Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs urged everyone to be vigilant if they see something, local media reports said.

Forsyth Road near Hanging Moss Road was closed after the reported shooting incident.
