Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Oscar Fernandes on Saturday visited Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi's constituency Amethi to check on the quality of roads in the city.
Fernandes, who personally inspected the roads in Amethi, said, "There is inadequacy in the work done here. Condition of roads are not good here and that's why we are here to make things right. It is our duty to ensure that roads are constructed properly and maintain their quality."
On being asked whether action will be taken against officials, Fernandes said, "It is our job and we will execute the work in a proper time frame. It is upto the department to take action against guilty officials. But action will be taken against the officials."
Asked whether he is visiting only Amethi and Rae Bareli, Fernandes said, "We have covered 90 percent of the states. I have personally visited many areas. It is not just about Rae Bareli and Amethi."
"Everyone has knowledge regarding elections. But it is not an issue for me. Everything is being done according to plan. It is our duty to speed up the work, wherever there have been delays," he added.
