Outrage over Hitler's bunker's recreation plans near Berlin

Plans for rebuilding the chilling bunker, where Adolf Hitler shot himself with his wife Eva Braun near Berlin, as a tourist attraction have sparked outrage.

The firm Top Secret that has proposed to recreate the Fuhrerbunker near a LegoLand will design five rooms at the complex in Oberhausen, West Germany, the Daily Star reported.

Top historian Antony Beevor said that to reconstruct Hitler's bunker some 300 miles from Berlin and opposite a LegoLand is beyond parody, as unconscionable as a concentration camp theme park, but he cannot see even the most obtuse neo-Nazis treating such a crass piece of commercialism as a sacred place, though it would certainly appeal to those of a morbid disposition.

Hitler lived at the site in 1945 as Britain and allied forces closed in on Germany and city planners demolished the site in 1988 and turned it into a car park.

Museum director Ingo Mersmann defended the move, saying that they are just in the planning stages as the architects are working on it.

Mersmann added that they want this to be an educational experience so that families or groups of school kids can see how it really was; to experience the tiny rooms and the dampness of the bunker.

Mersmann concluded that they want to recreate it to show people.
