Over 20,000 Sri Lankan troops deployed for flood relief

More than 20,000 troops have deployed to provide immediate relief to people affected by the severe weather, the island is experiencing for the past few days.

Military spokesperson Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya was quoted by the Lanka Page web site, as saying that immediate relief measures are continuing with the coordination of the DMC Task force.

The task force is headed by the Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and consists of Secretary to the Ministry of Disaster Management, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration, the Chief of Defence Staff, Tri Services Commanders and the Inspector General of Police.
