The Delhi Metro achieved another milestone earlier on Thursday when over 25 lakh people travelled on the Metro throughout the day.
Delhi Metro recorded the highest ever ridership figure of 25, 04,900 yesterday, which surpassed the earlier record set on July 29, 2013, when 24, 25,897 people traveled by the Metro.
In addition, the ridership of Airport Express link has grown from 10,500 to 12,500 on the same day.
In a major step towards tackling the issue of overcrowding in the trains, the DMRC will also introduce the first ever eight coach train on line 3/4 (Dwarka Sector 21 - NOIDA City Centre/ Vaishali) by end of this month. Two eight coach trains are currently being tested for commissioning into services.
24 eight coach trains are currently running on Line 2 (Jahangirpuri - HUDA City Centre) after the introduction of the first such train on 24th December last year. A total of 68 trains are being converted to eight coaches.
The Delhi Metro's network is among the fastest growing networks in the world, it has grown to 190 kilometers of operational network since it has started its operations in 2002 and carrying quarter a million of passengers every day.
