At least 50 people feared killed and 25 others are still unaccounted for after the bus they were travelling in from Bihar's Madhubani to Sitamarhi fell into a pond, nearly 10 km from the Benipatti Police Station, on Monday.

As per reports, there were 70-75 people on board the bus. Four bodies have been fished out thus far, while three passengers saved their lives by swimming to the bank.

The casualty is, however, likely to go up with the police and administrative officials carrying out extensive rescue and relief operations.

Meanwhile, the angry villagers damaged police vehicles and pelted stones on policemen and administrative officials injuring many of them.

The police resorted to several rounds of firing in the air to disperse the mob.

Meanwhile, condoling deaths, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, "Deeply saddened by the bus accident in Bihar's Madhubani district. My thoughts are with the bereaved families in this hour of grief.
