Over 72 percent voters in Assam, and 84 percent in Tripura cast their ballots

Speaking in a press conference the Election Commission (EC) on Monday said that in Assam where five parliamentary constituencies went to polls in nine districts the turnout was till 5 p.m was approximately 72.5 percent. However there were still queues in several polling stations and he expected the turnout to cross 75 percent in the state of Assam.

The election official also added that there were live webcasting which was going on while the polls were underway from 200 polling stations.

The EC official also threw light on law and order front where it said that around 377 persons had been arrested under various preventive actions from Assam. While 2307 non-bailable warrants were executed, bonds were taken from 20200 persons under Section 107 of CrPC which is a preventive section to maintain peace. Two helicopters were kept ready for emergencies although there was no need to use it. Around 1.13 crore of cash were seized, some 527 illegal weapons and 930 illegal ammunitions were also seized. A staggering 3.7 lakh litres of liquor were seized. In terms of the total worth of illegal items seized were tuned to 1.65 crores.

 

Similarly Tripura saw the parliamentary constituency of West Tripura going for polls today. The election officials briefed the journalists in a press conference about the steps taken to ensure peaceful polls and also about the turnout, "there were around 12.48 lakh registered voters out of which 6.39 lakh men while 6.12 were women voters. There were 26 critical polling stations which were identified and arrangements were made accordingly. The commission sent seven observes. 658 non bailable warrants were served on different people as part of preventive actions. 490 persons were bound down under various provisions of CrPC. 5021 litres of liquor were seized. Cash were also seized including Bangladeshi currency (takas).

The turnout till 5 p.m in Tripura has been 84 percent, but people are in the queue and the percentage could go up in one or two percent," an election official added.
