The Delhi Police on Sunday seized over 900 cartridges from the Welcome Metro Station in the city and arrested two people who allegedly supplied arms and ammunition from Uttar Pradesh to criminal elements in the capital.
"The Delhi Police Special Cell received information of a gang that operates in western UP and supplies arms and ammunition to criminals operating in the Delhi/NCR region. Acting on this information, the police on January 14 arrested Meerut resident Mohammad Sharik and Fayim Mian of Nainital from the Welcome Metro Station, recovering 920 cartridges of 7.65mm, 9 mm and 12 bore categories," Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjeev Yadav told the media.
"It was found that they get this ammunition from the Sitapur district of UP and after raiding a factory there, a third person Mohammad Imran was arrested. From this person, a further 100 cartridges were recovered," he added.
Yadav further stated that two of the arrested have prior records.
"Mohammad Sharik and Fayim Mian have previously been arrested in more than 10 cases," he said.
