Christian schools in Australia, which came up with a pamphlet titled '101 things to do instead of doing it' recently, has defended its move of preaching abstinence.
The pamphlet, part of the sexual education curriculum, had urged teens to consider activities like walking the dog, watching TV, baking cakes, horse riding, eating something new, blowing bubbles, playing ball and burping contest over sex, News.com.au reported.
The CEO of Christian Schools Australia, Steve O'Doherty asserted that he was surprised over the attention that the pamphlet got and said that preaching abstinence from sex is nothing new, as Christians are known to preach abstinence.
O'Doherty said that they teach about safe sex and the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases along with how they should protect themselves.
He also noted that there are emotional dangers in committing oneself to a sexual relationship and the best way to protect medically and emotionally is abstinence.
