A shipment of rice from India was reportedly found to contain 274 kilograms of drugs that were being smuggled into Melbourne in July.
A Melbourne agriculture department officer, while inspecting a shipment of basmati rice for pests, had discovered that the powder in the bags wasn't the normal rice residue, News.com.au reports.
According to the report, a total of 274 kilogram of ephedrine was found scattered throughout the 3600 bags of rice and it could have been turned into 200 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine with a street value of up to 200 million dollars.
Two Canadians and an Australian in Sydney and Melbourne have been arrested this week unfolding an international drug syndicate, the report added.
An Indian man has also been arrested in India, allegedly held responsible for organising the drugs and sending the shipment to Australia.
