The Australian media has pointed out parallels between Australian Test legend Doug Walters and 17-year-old Sydney schoolboy Jake Doran, who will this week face up to England's pace attack at Alice Springs in a tour match.

The teenager, who emulated Walters' feat of being selected for the New South Wales (NSW) second XI at 16 years of age, has been selected for the Chairman's XI in the same way as the legend, who played an unconquered innings of 140 against Queensland's second XI as a 16-year-old, 51 years ago.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Walters congratulated Doran for his selection, saying that as he was himself fortunate to have a similar selection, he believes that if a player is good enough, he should be selected regardless of his age.

Doran, who has represented Australia at under-19 level, was named to play England as a batsman/wicketkeeper, the report added.
