Australia national selector Rod Marsh has described Glenn Maxwell's omission from the team's Test squad for the tours of West Indies and Ashes as 'tragedy', despite the swashbuckling batsman's brilliant performance during the just concluded World Cup.

The big-hitting batsman, however, has been included in an Australia A side which will tour India in July.

Maxwell has a mediocre Tests record as he has scored 80 runs at an average of 13.33 in three Tests he played.

In light of Maxwell's omission from the Tests squad, selector Marsh said that he rates the big-hitting batsman very highly, and loves watching him play, News.com.au reported.

Marsh further said that he would love to have him in every side that he could, adding that it was a tragedy that they couldn't play him in every game at the moment.
