The Australian women cricket team has kept their Ashes dream alive with a 26-run victory over England at the MCG, boosted by a ground-breaking century by debutant Nicole Bolton.

However, despite the Southern Stars' first win of the series, the pressure remains on them as they must win the remaining four matches to regain the title with the next game in Hobart on Sunday.

According to News.com.au, Bolton, promoted to assist a struggling top order, made her century off 133 balls and led Australia to 7-266, while England was all out for 240.

Bolton also took the crucial wicket of Sarah Taylor (63 off 76 balls), running out the star England batter with a direct hit just as it appeared the visitors were getting on top at 3-151 in the 33rd over and she was bowled on 124 - the highest score by an Australian woman cricketer in their first 50-over international, the report added.
