The Ozone layer that protects the earth from the dangerous cancer-causing ultraviolet rays is showing signs of thickening after years of depletion, says a United Nations study.
The Ozone hole that comes into view every year over Antarctica has also stopped growing bigger.
According to the UN report, the Ozone hole will take a decade before it starts contracting.
Scientists said that the recovery came following political determination to reduce the man-made CFC gases from the environment that deplete Ozone layer, reported the BBC.
World Meteorological Organization's Secretary-General Michel Jarraud said that global action towards protecting the Ozone layer is a major success story in the field of environment.
The UN study was published by World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) researchers.
