The Indo-Czech pair of Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek have defeated the top-seeded American pair of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the semi-finals of the men's doubles event at the US Open, ending the Bryan brothers' hopes of a calendar year slam.

According to Sport24, Paes, 40, and 34-year-old Stepanek, who won the 2012 Australian Open, will face either Croatian Ivan Dodig and Brazil's Marcelo Melo, the 10th seeds, or second-seeded Austrian Alexander Peya and Brazil's Bruno Soares in the final.

Paes said after the match that he had great respect for the Bryan boys because they were great ambassadors for US tennis, adding that he had a great partner in Stepanek, who fought his way back despite having a spinal surgery this year.

The only men's doubles duo to complete a calendar year Grand Slam remains the Australian pairing of Ken McGregor and Frank Sedgman in 1951, the report said.
