The United States has declared the Quetta-based Taliban commander, Qari Saifullah, a specially designated "global terrorist".
The State Department said that Saifullah has used Taliban fighters to organize terrorist activities against the government of Afghanistan and coalition forces in eastern Zabul province, Dawn News reports.
Saifullah is the Taliban's shadow deputy governor and an operational commander in Afghanistan's Zabul province, the report added.
According to the report, Saifullah has also directly ordered his subordinates to conduct improvised explosive device attacks, small arms fire attacks, and rocket attacks in Zabul province.
The designation includes a prohibition against US persons engaging in transactions with Saifullah, and the freezing of all his property and interests in the US, or in the possession of US persons.
