The Christian community in Pakistan celebrated the festival of Christmas with great fervour amid tight security across the country.

The Express Tribune reported that in Karachi, the festivities started with prayers and other rituals at midnight in all the churches, including St Peter's Church and continued till early morning.

In order to prevent any untoward incident, security forces in large numbers were deployed to guard churches across the country.

Many churches cancelled celebrations in light of the Peshawar school tragedy, while several churches led prayers for the victims of the massacre.

In Lahore, a huge number of people attended the Christmas service at the 160-year-old Naulakha Presbyterian Church, which hosts one of the largest Christmas congregations in the city, the report added.
