Asserting that India's message to Pakistan is absolutely clear that talks and terror cannot exist together, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday was critical of Pakistan High Commissioner's Abdul Basit's statement that JuD chief Hafiz Saeed is free to roam in his nation.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said the Pakistani envoy needs to understand that Hafiz Saeed is the mastermind behind the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

"The Pakistan High Commissioner needs to understand that Hafiz Saeed is the mastermind behind 26/11 terror attacks, he is responsible for the deaths of millions of people in India. Just by going out and helping some people in the flood-affected areas (in PoK), he cannot wash away his sins," said Patra.

"India's message to Pakistan is absolutely clear that talks are terror cannot exist together and Pakistan has to realize that in order to have cordial relations with India," he added.

Speaking at a conference organised by Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) here earlier in the day, Basit had said, "Hafiz Saeed is a Pakistan national, he is free to roam the country. What is the problem?"

Basit's statements came in response to reports that Saeed was in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Though initially kept under house arrest, a ruling by the Lahore High Court set him free.
