The Pakistan Foreign Office has denied reports that suggested that the United States and the United Kingdom had asked it handover Mumbai attacks accused Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi to India or to them for an "independent trial" in order to improve ties between the two neighbours, a report said.

The report said that the Federal Investigation Agency's Prosecution Chief Chaudhry Azhar had told the Islamabad High Court on Monday that two countries, whose citizens were killed in the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai, had asked Pakistan to hand over Lakhvi, reported the Dawn. He did not name the two countries.

However, some media reports suggested that Washington and London had sent formal requests to Pakistan to seek Lakhvi's custody.

At the time of the 26/11 attacks, Lakhvi headed the banned organization, Laskhar-i-Taiba (LeT), which has been accused by India of carrying out the attacks.

Nearly 166 people were killed in the terror attacks.
